April 2026
The Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) supports nurses, midwives, caregivers and students of nursing and midwifery across Aotearoa New Zealand through scholarships, grants and research funding. Scholarships and grants are generally available to current Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa (NZNO) members.
NERF is currently transitioning to an independent organisational model to strengthen how it delivers funding and supports the profession into the future.
Current status
As part of this transition, NERF has temporarily paused new scholarship and grant rounds. Emergency grants are now fully allocated and closed to new applications, while systems and processes are being updated.
This work will support a more accessible and responsive funding approach, including improvements to how applications are managed.
NERF expects to open its next scholarships and grants rounds shortly. Further updates will be published on this page.
Ongoing commitment
NERF remains committed to supporting nursing education, research and professional development, and to ensuring funding continues to benefit the sector over the long term.
Relationship with the Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa (NZNO)
NERF has worked closely with NZNO for many years. NZNO continues to support members through a range of local and national grants.
