Applicants must:

• Be a member of the NZ Nurses Organisation (NZNO) 
• Live in the Midlands Region
• Be currently studying to complete a recognised course of study through the NZ Qualifications Authority or Polytechnic or University in New Zealand
• Be engaged in a course of study directly relevant to nursing.

Each year, the Neonatal Nurses College Aotearoa (NNCA) allocates up to $10,000 to support neonatal nurses through Professional Development Grants, with a maximum of $1,000 per recipient, awarded at the discretion of the NNCA Executive Committee.

Grants may be used to support postgraduate study, courses, seminars, conferences, or research projects related to neonatal nursing. Priority is given to nurses who are beginning research and/or are preparing articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

How to nominate

Nurses may nominate themselves or a colleague at any time throughout the year. Nominations are reviewed quarterly at executive meetings and the remaining 2025 meeting dates are:

• 21 August

• 13–14 November

Each nomination must outline why the nominee demonstrates excellence in their practice with specific examples, including how their values, behaviour, and clinical actions have positively impacted patient care.

This Award recognises excellence in the fields of Quality and Innovation, Equity in Action, and Emerging Leader. Its purpose is to assist Neonatal Nurses in professional development, thus benefiting care provision for neonates and their whānau.
