These guidelines were originally developed in 2012 as a collaboration between NZNO, NSU/TRT and the Nurse Educators in the Tertiary Sector (NETS) group.  This review and update has achieved the same collaboration with wide consultation with NSU/TRT and NETS.  The primary changes include:

• The guidelines being made more generic to cover the greater number of social media platforms in use rather than being Facebook specific
• The new legislation now in place – the Harmful Digital Communications Act (2015)
• The development and inclusion of a glossary

Consultation with NSU/TRT and NETS has generated enthusiasm for making the guidelines available in a variety of formats including a video.  Feedback on this aspect of publication is also sought.
