Anaesthetic Technician (AT) Scope of Practice Review Consultation

The Medical Sciences Council (MSC) is undertaking a public consultation on a proposal to redefine the parameters of the Anaesthetic Technician (AT) scope of practice. The Council proposes to widen the AT scope of practice from a two year diploma course to a three year degree for Perioperative Practitioners. Note that the AT scope fits within the RN scope of practice, and that this potentially duplicates the RN role of Surgical First Assistant.  The consultation documents include:
