The Perioperative Mortality Review Committee wish to consult on the recommendations that will form part of their forthcoming 2016 report.
The POMRC is seeking our thoughts and advice for the following recommendations:
For improvements to care, the POMRCrecommends:
- Non-operative treatment for patients who are assessed as having an ASA status of 5 must be considered.
- The risk of dying perioperatively should be discussed with all patients contemplating an operation with a significant risk.
- Death following elective surgery performed on the weekend should be investigated in depth.
- Resources available for the care of electively admitted patients operated on the weekend compared with those operated on in the weekdays should be reviewed.
We apologise for the short turnaround but we have only just been notified of this consultation.
