About Effie Redwood
Mrs Euphemia Rennie Forsyth Redwood, known as Effie Redwood, established the Endowment in 1972. It was set up to assist nursing personnel employed within the boundaries of Warkworth in the north, to Rotorua in the South, with further education to enhance the skill of nurses in the practice of their profession.
Mrs Redwood was not directly involved in nursing however her husband John A Redwood OBE, was a founder and Chairman of The Northern Masonic Association Trust Board. The Northern Board was set up to administer the aged care and retirement villages of Roskill Masonic Village, Auckland, and the John A Redwood Masonic Home in Rotorua.
Her admiration of the nursing staff and their care of the elderly in the two homes was her prime motivation for setting up the Endowment in 1972. Mrs Redwood’s daughter, Mrs Heather Robson, has been a trustee of the Endowment since 1980.
