The Health New Zealand Violence and Aggression at Work Health and Safety Guidance September 2026 document is a draft working copy, with September 2026 reflecting the current version date. You will have seen or worked with earlier iterations, so for many this is not a completely new guidance document.
Health New Zealand are undertaking a consultation on the document and NZNO will providing feedback. The feedback period closes Friday 6 November 2026 if you submit your responses directly to Health New Zealand, or you can contribute to NZNO’s submission by providing your feedback to policyanalysts@nzno.org.nz by Friday 30 October 2026.
The guidance is aligned with Health NZ's critical risk management approach and relevant health and safety obligations. The draft guidance and supporting materials are attached for your review.
Feedback sought
It would be particularly helpful to receive your views on:
- The practicality and usability of the guidance in your work setting
- Alignment with existing health, safety, security, and wellbeing processes
- Potential implementation challenges or operational considerations
- The effectiveness of the proposed control measures and supporting tools
- Training, worker participation and leadership responsibilities
- Any gaps, risks or opportunities that should be considered before national implementation
