Welcome to the College of Gerontology Nursing (NZNO).
Definition of Gerontology Nursing
Gerontology Nursing is an evidence based nursing specialty practice that addresses the unique physiological, psychological, developmental, economic, cultural and spiritual needs related to the process of ageing and care of older adults.
Gerontology Nurses collaborate with older adults and their significant others to promote autonomy, wellness, optimal function, comfort and quality of life from health gain to end of life. Gerontology nurses lead the inter-professional team in a holistic person-centred approach in the specialised care of older adults, across clinical settings. In addition to providing clinical care gerontology nurses advocate, educate, manage, consult and conduct research about the dynamic trends issue and opportunities related to ageing and its effect on older adults[1].
